Buvana

Two things will always stand out in my mind – the sheer number of suitcases she brought with her to Singapore (80 kilos, no less) and the wonderful care with which she kept all my scrawled and sloppy post-it notes. Her grasp of international politics is as stunning as the width and depth of her wardrobe. I have never seen anyone with such grace, calm, sweetness and sensitivity. A heady mix of masala rice, chai, coffee, maggi, bhel puri, al amen, conversation and laughter – this is one of the most fun friendships I’ve ever had. Flatmates forever in spirit, and friends “only” till Wednesday. Love you Bu!

One of my best finds in my Singapore experience. I am a proud witness to Bu's many transformations in the last two years. She can be a whiny little girl one minute, and a gracefully composed leader of the gang the next.

For all the chocolate you fed me, for being a wonderful chat mate on all things ranging from the best face powder shade, to history and international politics, for sharing yourself without reservation as a dear friend, for our comfortable silence while doing rubbish (checking out the latest fashion sites and watching Grey's Anatomy or West Wing) when we were supposedly "studying".... Thank you, Bubu!

This is one Singapore item I wish I could pack in my suitcase and carry home :)

Have you seen wild smile, with a charming after effects, meet her. A pleasant person and you cannot escape warmth of her presence.

I nearly had to arrange a restraining order after being confronted by a camera-wielding Buvana during my first few weeks in Singapore. Her high spirits and distinct laugh were always able to bring a smile to my face - even after hours of shopping at IKEA.

She is definitelly an asset in either India or Singapore, as she makes people happy, no matter what..

No one can be angry with her. No one can not love her. Her loveliness, brightness and loyalty transcends nationality, gender and age and makes so many people happy and cheer up. She and I made such a great contribution to Singapore's economy, which completely serves the spirit of public policy program!

She personal warmth that is very ... democractic. I have met very few people who can be so generous to each and every one.

My darling Dravidian friend from the dodgy south. We actually hit it off immediately for the PCS (Post Colonial Syndrome) was a robust common denominator. He he he he he. It was quite fantastic to come to know you and I hope things work out for you as you want them to be. Hopefully, we can live in good ole’ Europa someday soon. You really made our (the step children DD folks) transition process quite smooth in this city state. I will always cherish those glorious Wednesday nights and of course the pick up truck ride. A true travel buddy and lets do CHINA in May…..
Cheers, and I will truly miss you mate.

Bu taught me a lot during the first semester on the value of listening and I thank her so much, even though the lesson was painful. When she asks you, "How are you doing?," the question is uncommonly sincere - she earnestly wants to know. I believe that in the past two years she has really come into herself, gaining a significantly clearer image of herself, her strengths and weaknesses, and her life ambitions - from Infosys to a desired career in the UN. She is an extremely vivacious individual with intense empathetic tendencies: both elation around the company she loves, but saddled with misery for others' suffering. I hope she will overcome the latter, given her professional trajectory and the joy she brings to people when she surveys all around her and wishes to absorb life's experiences. Bu, I look forward to more laughter and sharing ahead.

I still remember the first day I moved into Buvana’s flat – I was tired with a bad cold but received such a warm welcome! Bu gave me pillows, a blanket, took me along for dinner to Al Ameen and just made me feel at home. And from there it only got better so I still thank the school for putting me into that flat! I’ll miss the late dinners at home, slumber parties, the useless promises to make each other work and yes, the gossiping :-) Well, she’s simply one of the best flatmates you could possibly want: she’s very warm and friendly, funny (even when in a bad mood, haha!), very easy-going and just soooooo sweet!
So wherever you go for the next year Bu (obviously selfish me I hope that’ll be Europe!) I’ll come and visit! And yes I know, Ferrero Rocher will be just good enough as a present – no dark chocolates cause that would certainly get me kicked out!

She is an Indian girl who cannot dance and an engineering graduate who cannot fix a computer. However, Bu's Charm arises not these aspects but from her inborn charisma. She is the shining star that everyone loves.
